Jet Ski Date in Miami: Two on One Jet Ski on Biscayne Bay
A jet ski date works because both of you are on the same machine, doing the same thing, with the city as the backdrop and a swim stop in the middle. No table between you, no phone. This page covers how two people ride one jet ski, which time slots have the best light given our 6 PM close, where the photos are, and how to give a ride as a gift.
Quick answer: how does a jet ski date work in Miami?
Direct answer: book one jet ski for two people. Every ski at Jet Ski Miami 7 seats up to 2; the price is per jet ski, from $189 for 1 hour, plus $30 for the passenger. The ride is self-guided from the Miami Beach / North Bay Village area, 15 minutes from South Beach, daily 7 AM – 6 PM, with a safety briefing, a recommended route and a GPS-monitored riding zone. Fuel and life vests are included. Book at /book; the deposit is $30.
Two people, one jet ski: the practical side
The driver sits in front and steers; the passenger sits behind, holds the driver's waist or the grab handles, and leans with the turns. On flat morning water this is easy for a first-timer. A few things couples ask about:
- Swapping drivers. Allowed at a stop (the sandbar is the natural place), as long as the new driver is 14+, has signed the waiver, and holds a Florida boater safety card if born on or after January 1, 1988. The temporary certificate takes about 30 minutes online, about $14, link sent after booking; see the license page. If only one of you wants to deal with the card, only the driver needs it.
- Two skis instead of one. Some couples prefer riding side by side. Two jet skis for 1 hour is $189 each; the comparison below shows the tradeoff.
- Who books. The person who books and signs must be 21+ with a government photo ID.
- No alcohol before riding. Save the champagne for after; there is no way around this one.
| Option | 1 Hour | 2 Hours (2.5 h on water) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| One jet ski, two riders | $189 + $30 passenger | $349 + $30 passenger | Closest, cheapest, best for photos of each other |
| Two jet skis, one rider each | $189 × 2 | $349 × 2 | Both drive the whole time; both need a boater card if born 1988 or later |
| One jet ski plus swap | $189 + $30 | $349 + $30 | Both drive; swap at the sandbar stop |
Florida sales tax and booking fees are shown at checkout. The full table is on the price page.
Sunset rides: what is realistic
Direct answer: we run daylight rides only and close at 6 PM, so the latest slots are late afternoon rather than true sunset for most of the year. The honest version by season:
- Late autumn and winter (roughly November to January): the sun is low and the light turns gold in the last hour before close, and sunset itself falls near or before 6 PM. A 4 PM 2-hour slot, or a 5 PM 1-hour slot, gives you the best "sunset" feel of the year on the water.
- Spring and summer: sunset is well after 6 PM, so a late-afternoon ride is bright and warm rather than golden. Summer afternoons can also bring storms; if the weather is unsafe we cancel and refund the unused time including the deposit, or reschedule for free.
- Morning alternative: mornings are the calmest water and the lightest boat traffic all year. A 7 or 8 AM ride on a quiet bay is its own kind of romantic, and leaves the rest of the day free.
Check the sunset time for your date, then pick the latest slot that ends by 6 PM.
Photo spots on the ride
The route is self-guided, so you choose. Spots couples use most:
- Star Island (15–20 minutes from the start): waterfront mansions on one side, the Downtown skyline behind you. The classic Miami backdrop.
- Venetian Islands (10–15 minutes): the causeway bridges and the pastel houses, calmer water for a steady shot.
- Haulover sandbar (25–30 minutes north): the swim stop. Shallow, clear water, the jet ski beside you. This needs a 2-hour booking; the route is on the Haulover sandbar page.
- Downtown skyline and the Miami River mouth (20–25 minutes): the big-city shot, best on a 2-hour or 3-hour ride.
Bring a waterproof phone pouch with a lanyard. On a 2-hour ride, the extra 30-minute bonus is exactly the time you spend taking pictures at the sandbar, so you do not have to choose between riding and stopping.
Suggested date plans
The classic (2 hours, late morning)
10 AM slot, arrive 9:30 for the briefing. Ride north to the Haulover sandbar, swim, swap drivers if you like, ride back past Indian Creek. Back about 12:30 PM, late lunch on Miami Beach, 15 minutes south. The rest of the afternoon is yours.
The winter golden hour (1 or 2 hours, late afternoon)
In the cool months, book the last 2-hour slot that ends by 6 PM. Islands first while it is bright, skyline on the way back as the light drops. Dinner afterwards in Brickell (20–25 minutes) or on the Miami River.
The early one (1 hour, 7 or 8 AM)
Quietest water of the day, nobody else on the bay, Star Island loop, back before most of Miami is awake. Then breakfast and a beach day.
Giving a jet ski ride as a gift
Direct answer: gift certificates start at $189 (a 1-hour ride for one jet ski) and never expire. That matters for a gift: the recipient books whenever the weather and the calendar line up, and the certificate still works if they move the date. For a couple's ride, a certificate covering the 2-hour option plus the passenger fee is the usual choice. Certificates are at /gift-certificates.
Rules and small print
- Daylight rides only, 7 AM – 6 PM, year-round. Arrive 30 minutes early.
- The booker and signer is 21+ with government photo ID; drivers 14+; life vests mandatory and provided; no alcohol before or during the ride.
- $30 booking deposit, non-refundable; balance at check-in by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay; $150 refundable security hold per jet ski, released about 5 business days after return.
- Cancel at least 48 hours ahead and the ride moves once to another date within 90 days. If we cancel for weather or safety, full refund of unused time including the deposit, or a free reschedule.
- Agreement and waiver are signed electronically from a private link after booking, so the day itself is just the ID check and the briefing.
- Wildlife is possible on the bay but never promised; the sandbar and the skyline are.

Frequently asked questions
Can two people ride one jet ski in Miami?
Yes. Every jet ski at Jet Ski Miami 7 seats up to 2 people. The price is per jet ski, from $189 for 1 hour, plus $30 for the passenger.
Can we do a sunset jet ski ride in Miami?
Rides are daylight only and we close at 6 PM, so the latest slots are late afternoon. In the winter months the light is already golden before close; in summer the sun sets well after 6 PM, so think "late-afternoon light" rather than sunset itself.
Does my partner need a boater card too?
Only the driver needs one, and only if born on or after January 1, 1988. The passenger needs nothing. You can swap drivers at a stop if both of you have signed the waiver and meet the rules.
How long should a jet ski date be?
Two hours (2.5 hours on the water with the bonus 30 minutes) is the sweet spot: enough for the Haulover sandbar swim stop and the islands without rushing. One hour works for a first-time rider or a tight schedule.
Can I give a jet ski ride as a gift?
Yes. Gift certificates start at $189 and never expire, so the ride can be booked for whatever date works.
Is it safe for a nervous passenger?
The passenger holds the driver or the grab handles, wears a provided life vest, and the jet ski slows automatically in no-wake zones. The briefing before the ride covers how to sit, hold on and signal.
